i personally love this weapon on a ramar because of his mech gun animation but in usefulness i would have to say that master raven is better then the dual birds but im not much of a master raven user i generally either use dual birds or just stick with my heaven striker

One post? I am not to be deterred!
I used to be a fan of the Dual Bird. On my second Ult char, my HUcaseal, I hatched a devious scheme to obtain multiple H/Arms and a Dual Bird all by lv70ish. It panned out (H/Arms and PC's were a lot cheaper back then) and I got my setup. It was nice... then I got a Last Swan and dumped it.
I started my RAmar before the Master Raven combo unlock, and the Dual Bird was quite nice back then. I learned to live with the post-lag, but it still got the best of me a number of times. After a while, Lee unlocked the Raven's combo and I quickly found one and put my Dual Bird aside.
To be frank, the Last Swan and Master Raven are more potent weapons. They are significantly faster with the handgun animation and still do respectable damage. Now, a low level RA that focused on ata may need the Bird's atp to break the dfp of some monsters, but for standard use the Bird is beaten out by its components.
As far as mechgun damage goes, there are better places to turn. However, these places are not always reliable. Spirit and Charge Vulcans can be quite expensive to run, and you may not feel like dishing out tons of meseta for casual runs. Zerk Vulcans and Vises do not require upkeep, but they are extremely risky to use. The Dual Bird has the highest grinded atp of all mechguns, so it becomes the next logical choice once special attacks are out of the picture.
Unfortunately, I believe that the speed of the Swan and Raven just leaves the Bird lacking.
It should be noted that the Bird cannot have hit. This is because its components can only be obtained from BPD2, and all BPD items are 0'ed. However, only Rangers and HUcaseal can use the Bird. These are all very accurate classes, so hit is less of a necessity for them. The Bird will almost never be used for its special attack, so there is less need for hit. Obviously the lack of hit is still detrimental, but it is still a very usable weapon in its 0'ed state. (This is, however, another point where C/S/Z Vulcs are superior to the Bird.)
Summary: The Bird is probably useful for low-level Rangers with an ata build. However, for standard use it is outperformed by the speedier Swan and Raven and in TA use it is outperformed by Charge/Spirit Vulcans.

Hm, I'm beginning to notice a trend with these items...
Anyway, to beat a dead horse, these are non-sacrificial mechguns. Therefore they are outperformed by sacrificial mechguns.
In comparison to Last Swan/Master Raven, however, I cannot say since I have never used a Dual Bird. I can say that I have used the unlocked Master Raven and wasn't too happy with its damage output, but that's all I'll say.
Another thing that I don't think has been mentioned is the Dual Bird's extended range. While a nice little feature, I have heard (and seen) quite repeatedly that quite often when you take advantage of this extra range, you will find yourself knocking the enemy completely out of range, thus defeating the purpose.

A trend? Nonsense! This week we will be discussing the Yas9... Control Tower Just kidding about the Yas. I want to break away from equips for a minute and focus on something else. There is a certain topic being discussed on Scht at the moment about PW4 and Control Tower. I figured we could take this discussion to our own boards as it is an excellent topic for our handbook.

I don't tend to join random tower quests like I used to, they've become aggravating for the most part. I'll spend basically the entire time on my RAmar freezing things, standing near one lily while locking down another, stopping gils from zooming around and stuff, alternating freeze shots between 2 or 3 meri's, and showing how cool I am by soloing 2 epsilons spawned at the same time because everyone else sucked and ate all my moons and I was the only one to be able to use demons with a slicer of fanatic to finish them off.
Ahem...
One RA who knows exactly what he's doing isn't enough to counter mass stupidity really. The Tower is not a place for the weak or those who don't know their chances of living are greater if they're moving around at times. I've often had a gil zooming around behind me and had to dodge it for 20+ seconds while the other 3 completely ignore the fact it's effectively keeping me from doing anything while I just barely avoid its rushes every second.
The place honestly terrifies me because of how it can tear me apart because random Joe Noob figures he can just be looking at the floor half the time without actually doing anything to contribute.

I freaking love the Tower It's hilarious when you go there and you just get one shotted by absolutely everything. It's kinda annoying though that some of the best drops are in the tower, especially when your only ULT character is a RAcassy...but I digress. Really fun if you're not totally serious about it, although it can just get frustrating after a while (Ill Gills -_- )

pw4 pisses me off(regular towers is fine). whenever a quest just consistently punishes my HU for not being a RA and actually trying to play to my classes strengths, there is something seriously wrong with that quest IMO. getting one shotted by every monster under the sun repeatedly just cause i wanna play the way my class was supposed to be played is just the most retarded thing ive ever seen

The only thing I can imagine a hunter doing there semi safely is using fanatic to demons or standing near a lily so it doesn't spit. Or pretending to be a ranger. I can't even imagine hitting meris up close and in their death spitting face...
