Tips and Tricks: Getting Legitly Rich Made Simple(r)
For many people, the hardest part of starting out is being poorly equipped. Even if you have rich friends who can help out in the gear department, you can't (and shouldn't) rely on them to fully gear you up with all the best stuff. Clearly, you must provide for your own needs at some point, and get the gear yourself! But alas, it seems getting to such a state is difficult ne? Fear not!
Working your way up the ladder need not be some arcane mystic art with incense and candles and whatnot, toiling away with ancient forbidden lore. All it takes is abit of planning, abit of knowledge, alot of patience, and some gumption. This thing isnt meant to be a be-all end-all, and your mileage may vary.
Some of these may seem repetitive and boring (and they do get that way at times), and I'm not forcing you into anything. In fact, if you find it boring, go ahead and do something else! It's a game meant to entertain, not drive you nuts (although it does do that to all of us at times). If this gives you a better idea to do it, so much the better! Enterprise is good afterall!
This does give you an idea however, of stuff you can do to legitimately earn those PDs and get the basic gear you need, and maybe eventually move on to trading with the biggest stuff, all legitly. In fact, it's so ridiculous that you may wonder why people even bother hacking and all that rubbish.
Just try not to cause inflation.
But enough of the introduction, you want the meat and potatoes right? Here we go.
Method I: Phantasmal World 3
No no, I'm not telling you to actually finish the whole quest (although for some IDs, this is profitable if you get lucky.)
Here's a map (courtesy of PSO World) of the route to take:
Map courtesy of PSO-World. edited by Katyusha (me)
Follow the blue line I drew. There's a few monsters in the way, but nothing most people can't handle with guns (if you have a Hit Hell Raygun or a Hell Needle, this part becomes too easy). There's a trap in the corridor you take, but I doubt it'll really hurt you anyway.
On the other side of that teleporter are... boxes. LOTS of Boxes. How does that do you any good? Well, boxes can give such useful things as Technique Discs, Meseta, PDs, Addslots (for some IDs), Materials (Luck Mats if youre really lucky), Grinders, and if you're a whitill or purplenum, useful box rares. Whitill gets the Disca of Braveman while Purplenum gets the MA60 Vice. Though Vices have reduced sale value these days.
Find a decent hit one? Take a proof pic! DoBs with good hit can be auctioned off for a good price! Same with 55+ hit Vices (although some might prefer to keep it for themselves, since it's a useful weap). This can be done in under 5 minutes, and can just be repeated a few times. It gets mind numbing after a few times, so I dont recommend it being done for extended periods, but it's easy to pile up PDs this way.
It's under Ep2, Extermination Quests.
Method II: BPD Investment
The average exchange rate is 2-3 Photon Drops to a Photon Crystal. It takes just 1 Photon Crystal for a shot at both of these. Considering that a Cannon Rouge can be sold for 10 or so PDs and you can potentially get 2 of them from hard Zu route, and Ult Zu route gives 4 boxes which are potentially Frozen Shooters and Spread Needles (sellable for 5-10 and 15 PDs respectively) and the other routes also have useful things for BPD1, and BPD2 potentially nets you a Liberta Kit (40-ish PDs) on hard mode.
Potentially, for a small investment, you can get disproportionately large returns if you manage to sell stuff off, but that will rely on your own business skills rather than anything I can ever teach you. Still, shouldn't be hard to find a "B> Spread Needle" topic on the Scht trade forums.
But you ask, where do you get the PCs to do such a thing? As I said, theres a reason theres an average exchange rate. You can probably get a few from the Scht forums if you look hard enough, or else smash Ep4 boxes, do Ep4 in Hard and Normal modes (rare monsters drop them for all IDs on Normal/Hard), or make friends with (or make) a purplenum character (ep4 Lizard drop).
Method III: Investing on Seasonal Items
Some items, such as certain mag cells, and various others, are seasonal (for example, the Easter only Drill Launcher and Marina's Bag, the Christmas only Heart of Angel, etc), and are cheapest in season, and sell hugely well off season. I managed to hunt for a pair of Hearts of Angel during the previous Christmas season, and bought 5 more for 20 PDs each. I sold them off season for 40 each.
The downside is it takes time for the return on investment, but eventually someone WILL want it. Again, selling them off is up to your skills as a businessman, not mine as a teacher.
Method IV: Buy Low, Sell High
As it says. Simply buy up items when they're sold cheaply and sell em off for more. This is related to method 3, only quicker. For example, buying an item for 5PDs and selling it for 6. Im not a walking price guide, so you'll need to use your smarts for this one, but the option is always there. Just be sure to check your sources to make sure theyre trustworthy.
Method V: Mag Raising
Do you love mags? Can you raise them well? Can you stand the long hours of feeding and raisin them into powerful companions? Well I can't, and niether can many people. Make use of your talent! A good mag farmer is hard to find. Sure there's plenty of people who raise Satos of various colors and cookie cutter builds for 20PDs, but if you're really good, you can make so much more. Can you make a 187 Mind Mag? Auction that baby! How about a 186 Power one? A really high Dex one? Same thing!
Taking custom jobs generally gives you more leeway for charging people, and lets you charge more than for just another cookie cutter Sato.
Method VI: Learn C-Mode
Ah C-mode... taxing, difficult, and for some people, quite enjoyable. If you're one of those people who are good at it (or are willing to work hard to learn to be good at it), then you can potentially turn that into profit. Sell custom s-ranks, or just save money and make your own. Either way, it's a positive net bonus, AND you learn to play the game better.
Method VI: Be a good, friendly, honest merchant!
Yes, make friends, be a great guy, and be known far and wide as a reputable dealer of goods. The more people like you, the more people will actually help you out when you need it, or give you discounts for stuff you need, and so on. Befriend everyone.
This goes beyond getting rich and acquiring ubers too. If you're an all around awesome guy to be around, then you're also helping out the community.
Yeah, it's 2AM as I write this, so its nowhere near done (or it might be if Im lazy, who knows.) Either way, hope it helps someone out somehow. And as I said, if you find any of these methods boring ('cept Method VI, which you really should be doing anyway), then feel free to do something else! Sky's the limit. It's not really that hard if you put your mind to it. Afterall, where there's a will, there's a way.
